Classes

“Si tu sueno es bailar, deja de sonar y hazlo.”

“If your dream is to dance, stop dreaming and do it."

Flamenco dance is exciting, challenging, and rewarding. Learning flamenco develops musicality, coordination, poise, and self-confidence. At “Studio Flamenca” there are classes for all ages and levels from absolute beginners to professional training.
Class content includes warm-up exercises, “bracero” arm work, “markajes” basic steps, “vueltas” turns, “zapateado” foot work, and full choreographies. Rhythmic training is an integral part of the class. Personal attention is given to all. Students participate in end-of-the-year performances and community events.

Flamenco for Adults

Classes are designed to increase body awareness, impart musicality, and develop movement vocabulary. Previous dance or music background are helpful but not necessary for learning flamenco. There is no age limitation. Classes are offered in three levels:

Begginers

No previous dance or flamenco experience required. This class introduces basic movement vocabulary and flamenco-specific technique for arms and feet. There is an emphasis on posture and grounding the body. Dances are in the Tangos and Sevillanas styles.

Intermediate

In this level students develop more foot-work skills and turns and are required to learn longer phrases. The 12-beat flamenco rhythm is introduced, and choreographies for styles such as Fandangos and Alegrias are taught.

Advanced

These classes are for students with upwards of two to three years of flamenco experience. The emphasis is on independent dancing, full body expression, and use of accessories such as fans and shawls. “Cante hondo” or deep song styles are learned requiring more musical sophistication and physical strength.

“My daughter has been learning flamenco for four years in Micaela’s studio. She very much enjoys the classes together with the other students. She also enjoys performing on the stage. But beyond that, we gained important benefits from the studio. Flamenco is a special dance that combines softness and strength, freedom and concentration, joy, and emotional release. All these together give a feeling of accomplishment that strengthens self-confidence, sensuality, and aesthetics. A rich experience that is fun to take part in.”

Flamenco For Adults

Micaela has been teaching adults of all ages and levels for over two decades. Classes are designed to increase body awareness, impart musicality, and develop movement vocabulary. Special attention is paid to safe and responsible conduct to maximize the learning experience. Previous dance or music background are helpful but not necessary for learning flamenco.

“Through Micaela I discovered a love for flamenco! She always knows what to focus on, how to advance me to become a better dancer, and moreover – how to take what I am learning in dance and make it relevant to life. Recommended!”
